Alcohol is a potent psychoactive substance that affects a person's psyche and behaviour.
In small doses, alcohol causes excitement, manifested in an improved mood, a feeling of joy, and a desire to have fun; however, when consumed in large quantities, alcohol has a negative impact on brain function.
Constant alcohol consumption leads to chronic alcoholism and alcohol dependence. Like any chronic disease, alcoholism develops gradually.
The problem of alcohol abuse is more relevant today than ever before. All strata of society and age groups suffer from the consequences of alcoholism, but the most vulnerable are the younger generation: youth, schoolchildren, and adolescents.
Preventive measures for alcohol consumption include: conducting pedagogical and social work in educational institutions, involving adolescents in healthy activity programs, promoting youth employment, media influence, social advertising about the harms of alcohol, monitoring children from problem families, treating people dependent on alcohol, and others.
It is worth noting that the optimal preventive measure for adolescents is sober parents. If a child witnesses drunkenness in the family, and there is free access to alcohol at home, there is a high probability that they will want to try alcohol.
The fight against drunkenness is a fight for a healthy future generation. Alcohol impairs the health of millions of people, increases mortality from a number of diseases, is the cause of many physical and psychogenic illnesses, destroys families, sharply increases crime, and significantly negatively affects the moral fabric of society.
Each of us must remember that alcoholism is easier to prevent than to treat!
