A regional trade union festival for children will be held in Vitebsk today, the regional trade union association informed a BELTA correspondent.

The main trade union charity Christmas tree event will take place at the Vitebsk Regional Palace of Children and Youth. More than 250 children have been invited to the morning party. These include orphans, children from orphanages, children left without parental care and with disabilities, as well as those from large and low-income families. The festival will be full of New Year's surprises, games, and gifts. The New Year's performance, prepared by the leading children's groups of the palace, will feature engaging interactive performances by fairy-tale characters with the young audience.

The New Year's celebrations are just part of the large-scale charity campaign "Trade Unions – for Children". Traditionally, on the eve of the New Year and Christmas holidays, trade unions actively participate in charitable events aimed at vulnerable categories of minors. Representatives of trade union organizations at all levels in all regions of the country visit orphanages, boarding schools, residential care homes for children with disabilities, social shelters, and children's homes, meeting with the wards of the sponsored boarding institutions. "This is a very important area of our work, aimed primarily at ensuring that the most important winter holiday meets every child's expectations," the trade union organization emphasized.

In the Vitebsk region, since the launch of the "Trade Unions – for Children" charity campaign in 2002, approximately 4.5 thousand children have attended the regional trade union Christmas tree event.

The organizers of the New Year's event are the Vitebsk Regional Association of Trade Unions, industry trade unions, and primary trade union organizations of enterprises and organizations in the city.-0-
