As of the morning of October 2, 35 thousand hectares of corn have been harvested in the region, which is 34% of the total area. Farmers in the Verkhnedvinsk district have achieved the highest progress rate (74%). Among the leaders are also the Rossonsky (66%), Postavsky (56%), and Polotsky (53%) districts. The average harvesting rate in the region is currently 2.1-2.2 thousand hectares per day. Considering the completion of other major autumn agricultural works, the agricultural workers intend to increase their efforts in the coming days and reach a harvesting rate of 4 thousand hectares per day. "It is planned to fully complete the corn harvest within two decades of October, provided the weather is favourable," noted the Regional Committee for Agriculture and Food.
Given the high moisture content of the grain (around 40%), corn harvesting is currently being carried out for silage. 665 thousand tons of silage have already been prepared, which amounts to 21.4 centners of feed units per conventional head of cattle. This is 2.9 centners of feed units higher than in the same period of 2019.
The average corn yield in the region is 244.4 centners per hectare. The highest yields are recorded in the Vitebsk (356 centners/ha) and Dubroven (335 centners/ha) districts.
