This year, the Vitebsk region is set to harvest over a million tons of grain. This was announced by Valery Nerozya, Head of the Department of Agriculture, Crop Production and Fodder Production of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Agriculture and Food Committee.

In 2021, the Vitebsk region experienced the largest regional shortfall in grain harvest compared to the previous season. Agricultural organizations gathered only 742 thousand tons, which was 75 percent of the 2020 yield. As everywhere, the weather had a negative impact. However, the limited amount of mineral fertilizers also played a role: in spring, less than a third of the required amount was applied. For the current harvest, 71 percent was applied in autumn and 75 percent in spring.

– This has created the conditions for an increase in the gross harvest, – noted Valery Nerozya. – The heat did not negatively affect the harvest. Therefore, we plan to harvest over a million tons of grain.
