Nearly 780 young specialists will join healthcare institutions in the Vitebsk region this year, as reported by the main department for healthcare of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
"The staff of the region's healthcare institutions will be augmented by 203 doctors, 179 interns, and 396 mid-level healthcare professionals. Compared to last year, the figures for mid-level healthcare professionals have increased by approximately 15%, due to a prior increase in admissions to medical colleges. The intake of doctors has remained at the same level. However, the number of interns has decreased compared to last year. This is explained by the fact that admissions were reduced in 2014-2016, and this year we have received significantly fewer intern doctors than last year," the department explained.
The allocation of young specialists will help address staffing issues in many polyclinics and hospitals in the Vitebsk region. "We believe this will help fill the shortage of specialists, primarily in the Polotsk region, Novopolotsk, and also in the Vitebsk City Central Polyclinic, where there was also a need for general practitioners. We think they have been significantly assisted this year by assigning the required number of specialists there," the department noted.
Regarding specialist doctors, it was added that there is a need for general practitioners at the Rossonskaya Central District Hospital. Anaesthesiologists and resuscitators are needed at the Braslavskaya Central District Hospital, and surgeons are required at the Gorodokskaya Central District Hospital and other regions of the area. Young specialists are primarily assigned to districts and cities where there is the greatest need for specialist doctors.
