An updated "Urbany" border post, combined with a border control unit, opened today on the border of the Union State and the EU in the Braslav District, reports BELTA correspondent. The change in border infrastructure is driven by the demands of the times and serves to ensure the protection of the state border, emphasized Vasily Gorbatenko, Deputy Chairman of the State Border Committee, at the solemn opening ceremony of the new facility. "The State Border Committee actively uses opportunities to participate in international programs, including those of the Union State, the UN, and the European Union, aimed at developing border service bodies and ensuring the protection of the state border," he added. Oleg Matskevich, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Chairman of the Regional Committee's Border Policy Commission, noted that the border is a frontier where there are no trifles, so it is necessary to create decent conditions for the servicemen guarding the Motherland's borders. The "Urbany" border post building, combined with the border control unit of the same name of the Polotsk Border Detachment in the Braslav District, was built with funds from the Union State. An administrative building and a dormitory for personnel with two- and three-room apartments have been erected on the territory. There are also garages for service vehicles, a boiler house using local fuels, two artesian wells, a wastewater treatment plant, a technical maintenance and repair shop for vehicles, a kennel for service animals, a fuel storage warehouse, a diesel generator, and a sewage pumping station. In fact, the border post can operate autonomously. As noted by Alexey Tikunov, Head of the Polotsk Border Detachment, the new building is intended for the development of border infrastructure. The construction was financed within the framework of strengthening the border of the Union State and implementing the Concept for the Development of Border Service Bodies of the Republic of Belarus for 2008-2017.
