April 3, Vitebsk /Alena Tikhonova - BELTA/. The image of Marc Chagall is attractive to actors due to its contrast; it is a role "for resistance." This opinion was expressed in Vitebsk to journalists by Leonid Bichevin, who plays the famous artist in the film "Chagall - Malevich," before a private screening of the picture, which took place on April 2, according to a BELTA correspondent.
The actor noted that he is not satisfied with his work in Alexander Mitta's film, but he likes the film itself. Recalling the period of work on the film, the actor noted that he finds parallels in his own life with the story told to the audience. "This is a valuable experience for me. On the fifth day of work during filming, Alexander Naumovich took me aside and said that he cursed the day he approved me for the role. It was a pedagogical technique," said Leonid Bichevin. "The Vitebsk period of Malevich's life under Chagall's wing became a turning point for him. The same is happening to me, in my learning under Alexander Naumovich's wing. No one works like this now. This is an invaluable experience for me," the actor shared.
According to Leonid Bichevin, the contrast in Chagall's image is attractive. "This is one of those roles that actors call 'material for resistance.' Sometimes you hit the bullseye right away, you grasp the essence. But here, a difficulty arose because Chagall, as a person, is like his painting, with contrasting colors and transitions. And he is a person who is, on the one hand, very tender, soft, very benevolent, flying, inspired, and on the other hand, very tough, aggressive, and ambitious. Finding wholeness in this combination was a difficult task for me. How well I managed, I don't know, it's not for me to judge," said the actor, emphasizing that he is not an art connoisseur or an expert in this field, but he likes Chagall's paintings. "What I have seen is truly inspiring. And Vitebsk is a city one wants to return to," Leonid Bichevin concluded.
The world premiere of the film "Chagall - Malevich," including in Belarusian cities, is scheduled for April 3. In Belarus, the film will be shown under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture in 17 cinemas in various cities.
