As part of the "Respect. Care. Responsibility" campaign, in the run-up to the Day of the Elderly, Tatiana Fedorovich, an inspector from the propaganda and public relations sector of the Lepel District Department for Emergency Situations, conducted an educational event "Secret of Safety" for senior citizens and people with disabilities.
The attendees learned that a common cause of fires is forgotten food left on the stove. They understood that electrical appliances have a limited service life and it is unsafe to leave them in "standby" mode, and charging phones at night is hazardous.
In an interactive format, simple fire safety rules were reiterated: how to prevent fires and how to respond promptly to emergencies. They also familiarised themselves with the principle of operation of a fire alarm.
— Such meetings are not only a joy but also very useful for us, — says Larisa Skovorodko. — The traditional events organised for us by the rescuers are always interesting; we learn something new, not only gain knowledge but also develop certain skills.
Additionally, the dean of the Lepel district, Archpriest Sergey Leshkevich, visited the social rehabilitation and habilitation department for disabled individuals of the Lepel District Territorial Centre for Social Services.
Father Sergey spoke about the upcoming holiday celebrated by the Orthodox Church – the Exaltation of the Precious and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, its origin, meaning, and significance for every Christian.
They also discussed the topic "What is love for one's neighbour?" God is love. When God lives within us, when our hearts are at peace, when we see God's beauty around us and in our neighbours, when we are grateful, when we appreciate what we have, when we strive to live in a way that harms no one, causes no one sorrow or distress, then those around us also feel good.
The meeting took place in a friendly atmosphere, and each participant left with valuable knowledge and a good mood.
