How does the new book differ from the book "Pamyat" (Memory), which was published in 1999? The previous edition is a historical and documentary chronicle. The current one consists of articles that have never been published before, and the topics covered are presented in a more detailed form.
14 authors worked on the essays, including the director of the Museum of Local Lore, Alina Stelmakh, and the keeper of collections, Tatyana Shleg.
The work took about two years. To gather the necessary material, it was necessary to read various sources from Vitebsk and Minsk archives, and use information from local lore and folklore expeditions. Among those interested in the district project is Galina Yakovleva, a Candidate of Historical Sciences from Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov. The book begins with her address to the readers: "Knowledge of the history of one's country and love for one's small homeland are an integral part of national consciousness and national self-identification."
A significant place in "Essays on the History of Lepel Region" is occupied by religious themes. The Lepel Church, the Gubin Church and parish, Orthodox churches, and Old Believers of Lepel Region are described. The collection can be purchased at the book department and on the second floor of the department store.
