About 100 partisans - participants of the Great Patriotic War from Belarus and Russia will gather on June 27 for an open regional rally in Klichevsky District, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. This was reported to BELTA by the Main Department of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee.
A requiem rally will be held at the military glory memorial complex near the village of Usakino, and wreaths and flowers will be laid at the mass graves of partisans and innocent victims. A thematic theatrical musical program with elements of partisan life reconstruction will take place at the open-air partisan camp-museum. The rally participants will light a symbolic partisan campfire, taste soldiers' kasha, and perform popular songs of those years to the accordion.
During the event, with the participation of representatives of the leadership of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee, local authorities, representatives of veteran organizations of Mogilev, Minsk and Bryansk (Russia) regions, the public and youth, a maple Alley of Remembrance will be laid at the site of the burned villages of Vyazen and Selets, which shared the fate of Khatyn.
The rally will conclude with a concert featuring creative groups and performers from the Mogilev region.
During World War II, the place called Klichevshchina was the center of Belarusian partisans. On March 20, 1942, the people's avengers liberated Klichev from the Germans and proclaimed Soviet power. In retaliation, the Nazis burned down 69 villages in the district, killed more than 3,000 people, and deported 580 young men and women to Germany.
In 1985, a memorial complex to partisans was established near the village of Usakino, at the site of the Mogilev underground regional committee of the Communist Party of Belarus and the headquarters of the military-operational group of partisan formations. Its dominant features include: a partisan camp with restored dugouts; a partisan cemetery with a warrior sculpture (over 400 partisans are buried in 18 mass graves); a memorial sign in honor of the underground regional committee's base in the Klichev partisan zone; and, apart from the partisan section of the complex, the "Split Hut" memorial (a mass grave of 140 residents of burned villages).-0-
