8 October, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. Approximately 1.2 thousand settlements suffered from strong winds in the Vitebsk region, BELTA was informed by RUP "Vitebskenergo".
As a result of strong winds on 6 October, about 1.2 thousand settlements experienced a complete or partial power outage. The most affected areas were Braslavsky, Rossonsky, Miorsky, Shumilinsky, and Polotsky districts. In the latter, strong winds, with gusts reaching 28 metres per second, damaged about 300 sq.m of the roof of St. Sophia Cathedral. In total, across the region, 124 farms, 161 power lines, and 2.2 thousand transformer substations were de-energised. Approximately 600 trees fell on power grids and roads.
To restore power supply, the operational personnel of "Vitebskenergo" numbering 516 people were promptly mobilised, and 133 teams were formed with the involvement of 157 units of equipment. Joint work with the MES headquarters was established. During daylight hours on 7 October, the main restoration work in the region was successfully completed. As of the morning of 8 October, RUP "Vitebskenergo" had 45 outstanding requests from the public for the restoration of 0.4 kW power supply networks.
