On September 30, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. About 20 investment agreement projects aimed at improving energy efficiency are planned to be concluded by the end of the current year under the UNDP/GEF project "Removing Barriers to Energy Efficiency Improvement in Belarusian State Sector Enterprises". This was announced today to journalists by the Permanent Representative of UNDP/UN in Belarus, Antonius Brook. A delegation of the international organization familiarized themselves with the implementation of energy-efficient measures at Vitebsk OJSC "Keramika", reports a BELTA correspondent.
In particular, it is planned to install three cogeneration modules in the housing and communal services of Volkovysk and cogeneration and trigeneration systems at some facilities in Slutsk using gas piston and gas turbine technologies. The total funding for the projects will amount to $33 million. The annual effect of greenhouse gas emission reduction is estimated at over 40 thousand tons. In Brest, Minsk, and Grodno regions, pump equipment at housing and communal services enterprises will be replaced. The implementation of modern approaches is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 thousand tons per year with an investment volume of about $7 million.
As noted by project manager Alexander Grebenkov, four state enterprises - Krasnoselskstroymaterialy plant, OJSC Keramika, Ivacevichi Housing and Communal Services, OJSC Berezastroy materialy - have already implemented energy-saving measures under the auspices of the UNDP/GEF project, each providing a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of approximately 30 thousand tons per year.
According to Antonius Brook, the implementation of UNDP projects in Belarus aimed at environmental protection, energy saving, and the introduction of alternative energy sources will continue. International experts intend to provide assistance in creating technical regulations for the design and construction of energy-efficient buildings and structures, and the construction of wind turbines.
The project "Removing Barriers to Energy Efficiency Improvement in Belarusian State Sector Enterprises" has been implemented since 2007 with the participation of the Department for Energy Efficiency of the State Committee for Standardization of Belarus as the national implementing agency. The project is being completed this year. -0-
