28 October, Grodno /Elena Stasyukevich - BELTA/. Approximately 30% of cases in the economic courts of Belarus are resolved using mediation procedures. This was announced to journalists by the Chairman of the Supreme Economic Court of Belarus, Viktor Kamiankov. He held a reception for citizens in Grodno today, BELTA correspondent reports. According to the Chairman of the Court, the workload of economic judges in the country exceeds the permissible limit and amounts to more than 100 procedures per month. This affects the quality of the courts' work and increases the possibility of errors. Viktor Kamiankov noted that it is planned to solve the problem in the near future through a systematic approach. Key measures include simplifying many procedures for resolving economic disputes and applying alternative methods. In particular, on the initiative of the Supreme Economic Court, non-litigation order proceedings are increasingly being used recently to resolve less complex cases, which allows for expedited and simplified dispute resolution. The assistance of mediators (not only judges but also court specialists) is actively used. The number of procedures where mediation has been applied is about 30% of the total number of cases. As a result of using mediation procedures, over 80% of disputes are settled by amicable agreements. The institution of mediation in the country is highly valued. This is evidenced by the fact that specialists from neighbouring countries come to adopt the Belarusian experience, Viktor Kamiankov emphasized. The Supreme Economic Court also expects the establishment of a system of arbitration courts in the near future, which will primarily consider disputes between representatives of non-state ownership. Arbitration courts are the oldest form of dispute resolution. It is an alternative to state justice, a court of a third party, chosen by the disputing parties themselves, to whom they voluntarily entrust the decision of their case and undertake in advance to comply with that decision. -0-
