Belarus plans to stock 48.8 thousand tons of potatoes in stabilization funds for the inter-seasonal period of 2016-2017. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Tatyana Karbanovich, Deputy Head of the Main Department of Crop Production of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.

Overall, more than 70% of the planned amount has already been stocked across the republic, and the stocking of potatoes is ongoing, noted Tatyana Karbanovich.

According to her, agricultural organisations in the country have potato storage facilities with a total capacity of 829 thousand tons for storing the "second bread". 81 specialised lines are operational for pre-sale preparation and processing of potatoes. This year, organisations have used their own funds to prepare storage facilities for the harvest (repairs, disinfection, purchase of containers, etc.) and acquired equipment.

In Belarus, the gross potato harvest in all categories of farms this year is expected to be around 6 million tons. Of this, approximately 4.8 million tons will be produced in private subsidiary plots of citizens, and about 1.2 million tons in agricultural organisations and peasant (farmer) farms.
