"Collection of used batteries in the Brest region is carried out by 271 facilities, in the Vitebsk region – by 285, Gomel region – by 151, Grodno region – by 250, Minsk region – by 198, Mogilev region – by 148, and in Minsk – by 182 facilities. For 2016, the operator has received applications for the purchase of about 900 containers for collecting used power sources. Accordingly, the number of facilities where they can be handed in will increase to this figure," said Sergey Yurcha.
According to procurement organisations, about 17 tonnes of batteries have been collected in the republic since the beginning of the year, but there is currently no processing plant for used power sources in Belarus. However, a proposal to establish one has already been submitted by OJSC "BelVTI". The idea was supported by the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services. Where and when the new enterprise will appear is currently unknown.
In total, about 3.8 thousand containers for separate waste collection are planned to be installed in Belarus next year. Of these, 1.3 thousand will appear in Minsk, and 2.5 thousand in the other regions of the republic. Currently, there are 84.3 thousand containers for secondary material resources in the country, including about 19.7 thousand for collecting paper and cardboard, 24 thousand for glass, 33.5 thousand for plastic, and over 7 thousand for mixed secondary material resources.
