On April 2, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. About fifty birdhouses will be made today by Miory schoolchildren, Ivan Borok, director of the "Yelnya" Hydrogeological Reserve, told a BELTA correspondent. The event, dedicated to the International Day for Birds, will be held within the framework of the EU/UNDP joint project "Assistance in the Development of a Comprehensive Framework for International Cooperation in the Field of Environmental Protection in the Republic of Belarus". The campaign will be opened at the Center for Children and Youth with a photo exhibition "Birds of the Native Land" by Valery Kovalenko from Sharkovshchyna. The exhibition includes about 40 works by the unofficial keeper of the "Yelnya" bog. The photos feature a white-tailed eagle, a grey crane, a long-eared owl, a great snipe, a nightjar, and other feathered inhabitants of the reserve, many of which are listed in the Red Book of Belarus. Then, representatives of the project and the media will move to Secondary School No. 3, whose students and teachers have been preparing for this day in advance. Together with the teams from two other Miory schools, they have made about fifty birdhouse blanks for tits and starlings from materials provided by the local housing and communal services, and are now waiting for guests to complete this work. The engaging activity for schoolchildren will conclude with a competition for the best wish for birds, the entries of which will then be written on the birdhouses. The winners will be awarded sweet gifts. The final stage of the campaign includes hanging the made birdhouses near the school and the future environmental center of the "Yelnya" Reserve. Ivan Borok also noted that within the framework of the EU/UNDP project, "Yelnya" will receive financial support for the technical equipment of the reserve, the creation of an environmental center, and two ecological trails on the territory of the bog. The campaign is designed to draw public attention to the problem of preserving biodiversity, foster a caring attitude towards the environment among teenagers, and visually demonstrate the role of each person in bird conservation.-0-
