The optimisation of prosecution bodies will be carried out in the interests of citizens, stressed the Prosecutor General of Belarus, Alexander Konyuk, at a meeting with the staff of OJSC "Glubokoye Dairy and Canning Plant", a BELTA correspondent reports. In 2013, the prosecution bodies will undergo optimisation of their activities and staff. In particular, district prosecutor's offices in regional centres will be merged into a single city prosecutor's office. This primarily concerns Grodno and Vitebsk. Similar transformations involving the merger of city and district prosecutor's offices are planned for Polotsk, Orsha, Pinsk, and Baranovichi. "All this will be done, first and foremost, for the convenience of ordinary citizens and will in no way affect the quality of work of the prosecution bodies," stressed Alexander Konyuk. As the Prosecutor General noted, 2012-2013 are characterised by an active stage of judicial and legal reform. In this regard, different priorities are being set for the prosecution service. "It is necessary to form public opinion that the prosecution service is not a punitive body. We are moving away from these functions. Currently, more emphasis is placed on assisting in resolving economic and legal issues. We will be increasingly involved in the economy," said the Prosecutor General. At the same time, the prosecution service is not abandoning general supervision over the observance of legality. "However, this activity should be of a verification nature and in no case should it hinder people's work," stressed Alexander Konyuk.
