The signing of the relevant cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Education, the Orsha District Executive Committee and the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Belarus will take place at the closing and award ceremony for the winners of the district campaign "I Choose Health!" on November 29 in Orsha.
"Today, our district is home to almost 160,000 people, of whom about 29,000 are children. There are enough preschool and school education institutions, and they meet the needs of students and parents. The sports facilities have significantly expanded and been updated in recent years for physical education and sports. The younger generation is also socially active: in April 2015, a Youth Chamber was established from among the best high school students in the city. Not to mention the active interaction of the authorities with public organizations such as BRSM and BRPPO. The Timur movement has been revived in the district, 11 exemplary ensembles, military-patriotic classes, EMERCOM classes, the military-patriotic club "Rusichi" and so on are operating. A great deal has been done to receive the title of "Child-Friendly City," the Department of Education, Sports and Tourism of the District Executive Committee emphasized.
The new Ice Arena has become one of the five largest sports and entertainment complexes in the country. Since June this year, under the "Gazprom - Children" program, a multifunctional sports complex for team sports with a ski-roller track "Olimpiets" has been put into operation. Much is also being done to instill healthy lifestyle habits. An image facility of the Orsha City and District Department for Emergency Situations has been opened in the "Fairy Tale Land" children's park. The construction of a nursery-kindergarten for 200 children in a new housing development area is nearing completion. All conditions have been created for organising activities in five institutions of additional education.
The city has established traditions for holding such events for children as the "I Will Be a Star" creativity festival, "Orshansky Pervotsvet" (Orsha Primrose), the "I Choose Health!" campaign, the "Istok" (Source) and "Student of the Year" contests, honoring Olympiad winners, the "Vivat, Graduates!" celebration, Ice Cream and Sweet Tooth Day for Children's Day, the international contests "Sails of Hope" and "Orange Birch," and many others. Young residents of Orsha have established friendly ties with children from Russia and Germany, and Chinese-Belarusian relations are developing. School business companies are keeping pace with the times.
"The upcoming year 2017 is quite significant for our residents – it is the year of Orsha's 950th anniversary. Participation in the 'Child-Friendly City' initiative will allow for more effective implementation of social policies regarding children and their families, enhance the legal culture of the younger generation, and address many issues taking into account the opinions of children and youth," the district executive committee is confident.
