10 January, Vitebsk /Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. The Vitebsk region is completing the work on creating development programmes for the basic districts, informed the Deputy Head of the Economics Department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Agriculture and Food Committee, Anzhela Nikitina, to a BELTA correspondent. In compliance with the Head of State's directive, two basic districts for the development of intensive agricultural production technologies have been identified in the Vitebsk region: Orsha and Verkhnedvinsk. Currently, a development concept for these districts has been drafted, taking into account the established structure of agricultural production and available material resources. Scientists from the National Academy of Sciences were involved in the creation of the concept. Specifically, in the Verkhnedvinsk district, priority is given to the development of beef and dairy cattle breeding. The structure of sown areas will be modified to meet its needs. Taking into account the increase in livestock numbers, a programme for the modernisation and construction of dairy farms and complexes is being developed. The Orsha district will become a basic district for the development of dairy farming and pig breeding, including pedigree breeding. Advanced technologies for growing flax, and open and closed ground vegetables will also be mastered here. The development concept for the region's basic districts forms the basis of their development programme projects, the work on which is nearing completion. -0-
