The Republican Unitary Production and Trade Enterprise (RUPTP) "Orsha Linen Mill" opened a representative office in Warsaw in January of the current year, as reported today to journalists by the general director of the mill, Vladimir Nesterenko, according to a BELTA correspondent. The mill's own retail network includes six stores in Belarus and several representative offices abroad. At the end of 2011, a representative office was opened in Ivanovo (Russian Federation). According to Vladimir Nesterenko, the enterprise is working hard to reduce inventory. "We sell 20% more annually than we produce. There is momentum," he stated. Currently, inventory is valued at Br64 billion. Some items have not found a buyer since 2007. Orsha Linen Mill is one of the leading enterprises in the light and textile industry of Belarus and other CIS countries, established in 1930. Currently, the enterprise comprises Factory No. 1 for the production of carpet yarn, tarpaulin fabrics, and industrial products from short fibre; Factories No. 2 and No. 3 for the production of yarn and fabrics from long flax fibre; a finishing factory producing finished household fabrics; and a garment factory. The enterprise has 25 workshops and 133 production sites. As of the beginning of 2012, the number of employees exceeded 5.7 thousand people, accounting for 30% of all those employed in Orsha's industry. In 2007-2009, the first stage of technical re-equipment of the mill was carried out, which expanded and updated the range of linen fabrics while simultaneously reducing production costs. A new type of product from short flax fibre, "kotolen" (a linen-cotton blend), was also developed. Production capacities allow for the processing of about 25 thousand tons of flax fibre per year and the production of up to 30 million square meters of linen fabrics. The product range reaches 2 thousand articles. These include household fabrics of various designs and colours, finished products, and industrial products. Household fabrics and products made from them constitute 77% of the enterprise's production volume. In 2011, the enterprise supplied products to 7 countries of the near abroad and 21 countries of the far abroad. The share of household fabrics supplied for export is over 70%. According to preliminary data, sales profitability for the results of 2011 is expected to reach 19.6%. Net profit will exceed Br70 billion. The foreign trade balance is positive at $28 million.
