Variable weather conditions have set in across Belarus. Most of the territory is expected to experience rain mixed with wet snow, accompanied by gusty winds and near-zero air temperatures.
The State Automobile Inspectorate advises drivers to consider that under such conditions, wet road surfaces can abruptly turn into icy patches, leading to reduced vehicle control and an increased risk of skidding. It is important to choose a safe speed, maintain a sufficient distance and lateral interval, and take into account traffic flow intensity and road surface condition.
In darkness and low visibility, be prepared for the potential appearance of pedestrians at the roadside. Exercise particular caution when passing through crossings, exposed sections of highways, and bridges. Brake, accelerate, and steer smoothly to avoid skidding.
Pedestrians should also be more vigilant and careful. When crossing the roadway, look carefully in all directions. Even when crossing at a regulated pedestrian crossing, ensure that all vehicles have stopped, as the braking distance of cars is significantly increased. During precipitation and in darkness, make yourself visible with high-visibility clothing and reflective elements!
