18 May, Vitebsk /Alena Tikhonova - BELTA/. Metropolitan of Minsk-Mogilev Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz will hold a solemn service today in Vitebsk to consecrate the Holy Spirit Church, the Vitebsk Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Belarus informed a BELTA correspondent.
The Holy Spirit Church is located in a reconstructed building on Chkalov Street. The former sports facility was transferred to the Roman Catholic Church in 2000. Services began to be held in a chapel built next to the building in 2001. Construction work on the site lasted for over 10 years.
The Holy Spirit Church will be the third consecrated church of the Roman Catholic Church currently operating in Vitebsk. On October 10, 2009, the Church of Jesus Merciful was consecrated. In 2011, the new church became the Vitebsk Cathedral. Until that time, the main Catholic church in Vitebsk was the Church of Saint Barbara, built in 1785. In the early twenties of the last century, the church was closed. Services resumed after the restoration of the architectural monument in 1992.
The solemn service will begin at 11:00 AM.-0-
