The stability of the state and the well-being of the people primarily depend on its provision and accessibility for people, stated the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, speaking today at the republican festival-fair of agricultural workers "Dazhynki-2011", reports a BELTA correspondent. "We often say that the food security of the state is the cornerstone of independence. And recent events confirm this truth. Food is acquiring the most important strategic status," emphasized the Belarusian leader. "I will say frankly: the dignity of the nation, the self-respect of the people, the real sovereignty of the country are unthinkable without self-sufficiency in food." According to him, world experience shows that highly developed and efficient agriculture is an indispensable characteristic of advanced economies. No country can be considered successful with a lagging agricultural sector. Therefore, Belarus pays so much attention to the revival and dynamic development of the agro-industrial complex, explained Alexander Lukashenko. He recalled that food has been defined as the most important state priority in Belarus. Large-scale targeted programs were adopted for its successful implementation, and huge financial and other resources were invested. The most important achievement in the agricultural sector is that the village has been revived, agricultural production has been raised to a new level, and its destruction has been prevented.
