12 September, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. A night shelter for homeless people will open in October in Orsha, Alexander Kartsev, Head of the Department for Labour, Employment and Social Protection of the Orsha City Executive Committee, told a BELTA correspondent.
The facility is located on the premises of the former Railway Hospital building in the city. It will be able to accommodate 20-25 people at a time. Special sleeping places and a dining room have been equipped for them. A doctor will be on duty.
Currently, renovation work is being completed at the facility. It is planned that the first residents will be able to stay there as early as October. The facility is financed from the local budget. "Currently, more than 10 homeless people are registered in Orsha, so there is definitely a need for this facility," added Alexander Kartsev.
As noted by the Committee for Labour, Employment and Social Protection of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, this is the second facility in the region intended for the overnight stay of homeless people. The first, designed for 36 people at a time, was opened last year in Vitebsk. "Its operation proved to be in demand, especially actively during the autumn-winter period," emphasised the specialists, noting that the task has now been set to create similar facilities or centres in Polotsk and Novopolotsk.-0-
