Hunting for roe deer is permitted around the clock and can be carried out from ambush or by stalking. Rifled (with muzzle energy of a bullet exceeding 1500 joules), smooth-bore (using cartridges loaded with a bullet or buckshot), and projectile (hunting bows and crossbows) hunting weapons are allowed as hunting tools.
To search for killed or wounded animals, hunting dogs are allowed to be used – pointers, spaniels, retrievers, terriers, and dachshunds, as well as dogs of other breeds with a field diploma for blood tracking.
Permits for roe deer harvesting are issued to hunters by hunting ground users in accordance with the approved plans for the removal of game animals of regulated species.
It should be noted that the antlers of roe deer males are completely cleared of skin by mid-May and are a desirable trophy for most hunters. The roe deer population in the Republic of Belarus is increasing annually. There are currently over 135,000 roe deer inhabiting the hunting grounds. In 2023, hunters harvested about 30,000 roe deer individuals. At the same time, two decades ago, the population size was only 55,000 individuals, and the harvest was 3,000 individuals per year.
We remind you that the illegal harvesting of roe deer entails criminal liability in accordance with Part 2 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus and provides for the deprivation of the right to hunt with a fine, restriction of liberty for up to two years, or imprisonment for up to three years. In addition, the person who committed this crime must compensate for the environmental damage caused in the amount of 120 base units for each illegally harvested roe deer individual.
It should be remembered to comply with the Hunting Rules and respect nature in order to maintain balance and ensure the rational (sustainable) use of hunting resources.
