During this period, until September 30, it is permitted to hunt adult males, including those of trophy quality, as well as selective animals (regardless of sex and age).

This hunt is timed to coincide with the beginning of the deer rutting season and is usually conducted by calling the males (using decoys).

Permitted hunting methods include rifle hunting from an ambush or stalking during the day and night.

Permitted hunting implements include rifled hunting weapons with a muzzle energy of over 3000 joules, smooth-bore hunting weapons using slugs, hunting bows, and crossbows.
