An open tournament for the prizes of the General Director of OJSC "Naftan" among rescuers of fire units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations will be held in Novopolotsk today, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee.
The event, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the city, will take place on Builders' Square. It will open with children's play areas dedicated to Children's Day. Young residents of Novopolotsk and city guests at the "101 rushes to help" site will be able to compete in various contests prepared by the young rescuer-firefighters of the "Maximum" club, try on real firefighting gear, and attempt to rescue a simulated victim in a special pneumatic module with artificial smoke, extinguish a simulated fire, feel like a rescuer-mountaineer, and much more.
Competitions involving real rescuers will begin a little later. Teams will need to perform elements of fire crossfit that simulate the combat operations of the Ministry of Emergency Situations units. For example, in full gear and with a compressed air apparatus (self-contained breathing apparatus) with a total equipment weight of about 20 kg, participants will have to lay a hose line, roll a tyre, and run a zigzag course carrying a 10 kg fire extinguisher (simulating obstacle crossing), and carry a 75 kg dummy (simulated victim) over a distance of 30 m. "From the outside, completing these tasks looks very spectacular and exciting. However, in reality, an unprepared person cannot complete them. Maximum loads require skill, speed, strength, and endurance, which rescuers demonstrate in their daily work when extinguishing fires and rescuing people," the City Executive Committee noted.
