Public health protection is a key objective of the socio-economic development programme.
In 2011, significant work was carried out to strengthen the material and technical base of healthcare institutions, with a particular focus on rural healthcare. 712.2 million roubles were spent on the modernisation and repair of healthcare facilities. Modernisation and roof repairs were completed for the infectious diseases department, the Pyshnya nursing care hospital, the forensic medical examination department, and part of the children's department roof. Gas supply systems (medical oxygen supply) for the Central Regional Hospital (CRH) departments were modernised. 300.0 million roubles were spent on roof repairs for the Volossovichi rural outpatient clinic. The Matyrinsky, Chersky, and Gubin feldsher-midwife posts were relocated to other premises with current repairs. Heating repairs were carried out for the Sushany feldsher-midwife post. The Voron feldsher-midwife post was relocated to a new building in the village of Starye Lepel, and medical equipment was purchased for it.
In 2011, 324.6 million roubles from the local budget were spent on the acquisition of medical equipment, durable and soft furnishings. The following were purchased: a bedside monitor – 73.0 million roubles, a blood UV irradiation apparatus – 6.0 million roubles, 5 syringe pumps for 30.0 million roubles, 2 "Malysh" phytotherapy apparatuses for 31.4 million roubles. Medical equipment worth 471.0 million roubles was acquired from the republican budget (an endoscopic complex – 240.6 million roubles, a biochemical analyser – 64.0 million roubles, 2 pacemakers – 11.9 million roubles, a "Beldet-2" dental complex – 38.5 million roubles, an otorhinolaryngological unit – 32.6 million roubles, etc.).
In fulfilment of the State Programme for the Prevention of Disability and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities, and to improve the physical rehabilitation of outpatients, the rehabilitation department of the CRH was equipped with exercise machines in January 2012, costing 9 million roubles (an elliptical trainer, an AB-tonic trainer, an abdominal bench, a treadmill), and a massage chair – 23.4 million roubles.
