July 13, Lepel /Own.inf./. The district committee of the Communist Party of Belarus and the district organization of soldiers-internationalists organised an interesting excursion for their activists. The trip to Minsk on July 3 for Independence Day will be long remembered. Together with their elder comrades, the students of the Gomel City Lyceum, who were holidaying at the "Zhemchuzhina" children's rehabilitation and health centre, watched with admiration the parade of the Minsk garrison troops and the sports and youth procession.

After the parade, the "Afghan" veterans led the youth on an excursion to the Island of Courage and Grief, where a chapel has been built in honour of those who died in local conflicts. On this festive day, hundreds of "Afghan" veterans from different regions of Belarus came to the memorial to pay tribute to their combat brothers, those who did not return to their homeland from the distant hot country. The children witnessed the reunion of former comrades-in-arms, their enduring friendship and combat fraternity over the years.

Soldier-internationalist, First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Belarus, Major General Igor Lavrinenko, addressed the younger generation with words of congratulations on the occasion of our country's Independence Day.

As noted by the First Secretary of the District Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus, Nikolai Shalak, and the Chairman of the District Organization of Soldiers-Internationalists, Sergey Krivel, joint events of this kind will be held in the future. It is important to foster a sense of patriotism and responsibility for the future of their country in the current generation of young people. And who better than representatives of the older generation can best convey this to them through various forms of educational work?
