As part of the "Respect. Care. Responsibility" campaign, and in anticipation of the Day of the Elderly, the propaganda inspector of the Lepel District Department for Emergency Situations conducted a preventive event "Secret of Safety" at the territorial center for social services for the elderly.
To reveal the "Secret of Safety," the audience had to decipher the silhouettes of various objects appearing on the screen by solving riddles.
The first topic for discussion was careless handling of fire, particularly while smoking. Tatyana Vladimirovna gave examples of tragedies caused by this reason in the Lepel district, and also reminded that tragedy most often visits the homes of those who adhere to the principle of "drank-smoked-fell asleep."
The next topic for discussion concerned electrical safety. Here, the propaganda inspector focused on issues such as: overloading the electrical network, using non-factory-made electrical appliances, and using electrical appliances with expired service life.
The seasonal topic of stove heating was also touched upon and studied in detail. Participants had the opportunity to identify violations on a model of a "dangerous stove" and to familiarize themselves with the internal components of the heating appliance.
Food left on the stove is another common cause of fires. Therefore, by acting out a mundane domestic situation that could happen to any housewife in the kitchen, Tatyana Vladimirovna visually demonstrated what common kitchen items could be used to extinguish burning oil in a frying pan.
In order to detect an emergency in a timely manner, all attendees were strongly advised to install an autonomous fire alarm in each living room.
At the end of the event, through an open dialogue, pensioners from the Lepel region concluded that the main secret of safety lies in the elementary observance of fire safety rules and reinforced all the acquired knowledge by watching training videos from the Ministry of Emergency Situations: "Autonomous Fire Alarm" and "Safety – Into Every Home."
