As the weather gets warmer, more cyclists and personal mobility device (PMD) users appear on the streets. Rental e-scooters are already actively used by citizens, but not always safely.
After the seasonal break, it is necessary to recall the rules for riding such devices:PMDs can be used in residential areas and on pavements at a speed not exceeding 10 km/h, on cycle paths and carriageways – up to 25 km/h, outside built-up areas – also up to 25 km/h;
when crossing a carriageway, PMD users and cyclists are obliged to dismount;
dismounting is not required when crossing a carriageway via a cycle crossing with a bicycle traffic light or a special sign, provided that the speed is that of a pedestrian and safety is ensured;
children under 14 years of age are prohibited from using e-scooters without adult supervision;
devices weighing more than 35 kg are not allowed on pavements;
operating a PMD while intoxicated is prohibited;
only one person may ride a PMD at a time.
It is recommended to wear a protective helmet and other gear.
When riding a bicycle or PMD in the dark, a white front light and a red rear light must be switched on, and high-visibility clothing should be worn.
Always be attentive, look not only ahead but also to the sides, and try to anticipate the actions of other road users.
