Promising peat deposits have been identified in Belarus, as reported to BELTA by the Ministry of Energy, commenting on the Resolution of the Council of Ministers No. 794 "On certain issues of peat extraction and optimization of the specially protected natural areas system". In the Brest region, peat deposits with a total area of approximately 700 hectares are located within the boundaries of the local significance biological reserve "Morochno" (Stolin District) and the republican landscape reserve "Vygonoshchanskoye" (Lyakhovichi District). In the Vitebsk region, the deposits cover 1.5 thousand hectares and are situated within the territories of the prospective republican significance wetland reserve "Yanka" (Sharkovshchyna District) and the local significance reserve "Golubitskaya Pushcha" (Dokshitsy District). In the Grodno region, promising peat extraction deposits amount to 750 hectares and are located in the republican biological reserve "Dokudovsky" (Lida District) and the republican landscape reserve "Ozery" (Grodno District). In the Minsk and Mogilev regions, peat deposits with an approximate area of 200 hectares each have been identified – within the local significance landscape reserve "Veternevichsky" (Pukhovichi District) and the local significance hydrological reserve "Unukhal'skoye-1" (Klichev District). The total area of all peat deposits identified by the resolution as promising for extraction is 3.35 thousand hectares. The resolution also introduces amendments to the section "Republican Significance Reserve Territories" of the scheme for the rational placement of republican significance specially protected natural areas, approved by the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of Belarus No. 1919 of December 29, 2007, until January 1, 2015. The document has been adopted to meet Belarus's economic demand for peat resources.-0-
