In early April, the open judo championship for boys born between 2005 and 2008 was held in Uruchye, Minsk, at the "Sports Committee of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus" institution. Athletes from all over the republic gathered, numbering over 300 participants. Approximately 30 individuals competed in each weight category. The competition was fierce. To become a winner, significant effort was required. As everyone knows, champions are not born; they are made through long, persistent training.

It is very pleasing that Maksim Varoshko from Lepel secured first place in the 60-kilogram weight category. He won all five of his bouts cleanly and ahead of schedule. He was the sole participant singled out from the large field for demonstrating the best technique.

I cannot fail to mention the consistent coaches of the Lepel branch of the Trade Union Youth Sports School "Volat" – the Popov family, who dedicate considerable effort to ensure that Lepel residents bring glory to our region in competitions of various levels.

I would also like to highlight Lepel residents Matvey Pritzker, Ilya Stelmak, Renat Zhusupov, and Daniil Alexandrov, who proved themselves to be true athletes, winning many bouts, but narrowly missing out on prize-winning places.

Competitions of this nature serve as a strong incentive for growth and development in one's skills.

It is a misconception to believe that in judo, the heavier the athlete, the stronger they are. Well-honed technique and the execution of correct moves are more crucial. Inner fortitude is also indispensable. Combat sports forge a person's moral and volitional qualities, fostering all-round development.

Maksim Varoshko, the winner and recipient of the "For Best Technique" prize, is presented with his award by Ruslan Sharapov, Honoured Master of Sports, Secretary General of the BFD.
