"This year, Belarus plans to implement a pilot project for the construction of apartment buildings with an autonomous system for converting electrical energy into thermal energy for heating and hot water supply. We will start mass construction of the first such houses next year. At least two or three such facilities will appear in each region, where residents will be able to regulate thermal and electrical energy directly in their apartments. Subsequently, the decentralisation of the heating system will allow for an annual reduction in overall heat consumption in the housing stock by 5-7%. On a national scale, this is a huge resource that will allow us to direct the saved funds to expand the use of energy-saving technologies. In general, the annual reduction in heat consumption with such growth in housing construction indicates that we are on the right track," the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
He also emphasised that by the end of the year, the head of state's requirement to reduce the cost of housing under state orders to the level of the average salary will be met, and the necessary measures are being taken for this.
The ten-storey, 120-apartment residential building on Dzerzhinsky Street has become the first second-generation energy-efficient house in the regional centre and the third in Belarus, incorporating the most modern energy-saving technologies.
The building was constructed under the project "Enhancing Energy Efficiency of Residential Buildings in the Republic of Belarus," funded by the Global Environment Facility within the framework of the Climate Change Strategy, with energy-efficient equipment worth $950,000 purchased free of charge using fund resources. The project is being implemented through the joint efforts of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Department for Energy Efficiency of the State Committee for Standardization, and the Ministry of Architecture and Construction of Belarus.
