The first L-410 aircraft for the Vitavia airline will land at Vitebsk airport in January 2012, Pavel Gorodnov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vitavia Holding Group, told a BELTA correspondent. In 2012, Vitavia plans to receive two L-410 aircraft from the Czech company Aircraft Industries a.s. The delivery of the second aircraft is scheduled for March. Both aircraft will be manufactured in a passenger configuration and will accommodate 17 seats with the possibility of conversion into a business class lounge for eight passengers. By agreement with the manufacturer, retraining of Vitebsk flight crews will be organised at its base, the first of which will travel to the Czech Republic in December of the current year. In total, Vitavia's aircraft fleet will comprise five L-410 aircraft, with approximately 17 million euros to be allocated for their purchase. The company intends to develop regional passenger transportation and is exploring the possibility of opening routes Vitebsk-Moscow, Vitebsk-Warsaw and Vitebsk-Kaliningrad next year, with the possibility of introducing other flight destinations not being ruled out. For instance, following a working meeting at the Gomel Regional Executive Committee, a decision was made to develop air transportation from Gomel. To this end, it is planned to establish a branch of the Vitebsk company in Gomel and include the Gomel region in Vitavia's projected flight plan, Pavel Gorodnov added. In parallel with the airline's development, preparatory work is underway for the construction of infrastructure at Vitebsk airport. The company has received permission to design the construction of parking stands, hangars, and a customs warehouse with an area of approximately 5,000 sq.m. Furthermore, about 32,000 sq.m have been allocated for the construction of an administrative complex, including a business aviation terminal, as well as approximately 47.5 hectares for the design of a transport and logistics centre. "Unfortunately, we only received the design permit on October 10, which has led to delays in the development and approval of the business plan," noted Pavel Gorodnov. Nevertheless, despite the delay, the company intends to fulfil its obligations and submit the business plan to the regional executive committee before the beginning of November, he added.
