Pedestrians and cyclists are still considered the most vulnerable and unprotected road users, for whom the road carries many dangers and threats, especially when elementary traffic rules are not observed. Unfortunately, quite often there are cases where pedestrians run across the roadway in an unauthorized place, walk on the roadway while intoxicated, and at night walk along the road without retroreflective elements and are completely invisible. It is precisely such a negligent and irresponsible attitude towards one's own life and health that often leads to serious tragedies on the road!
By the way, for 7 months of the current year, 58 road traffic accidents involving pedestrians were registered in the region, in which 13 people died and 45 received injuries of varying severity. Since the beginning of August, 13 traffic accidents involving vulnerable road users have occurred in the Vitebsk region, resulting in one death and 13 injuries. Of the 13 traffic accidents, 6 occurred in rural areas. As for the Lepel district, during the elapsed period of 2022, 8 traffic accidents were registered, in which 3 people died and 6 were injured.
Thus, with the aim of preventing road traffic accidents involving vulnerable road users, as well as timely response to the worsening road situation, from August 24 to 31, traffic police officers are conducting a preventive event, within the framework of which extensive information and explanatory work on the rules of safe behavior on the road will be organized for both pedestrians and cyclists, and drivers! Raid activities will be carried out, work on unregulated pedestrian crossings will be conducted, as well as performances in work collectives, where special emphasis will be placed on explaining the innovations in the traffic rules, which will come into legal force on October 27, 2022.
