Ten contestants, who reached the final from twenty applicants, competed for the right to represent our district at the zonal round in Beshenkovichi.

Ten contestants, who reached the final from twenty applicants, competed for the right to represent our district at the zonal round in Beshenkovichi.
Four age categories and two nominations – "solo vocalist" and "vocal ensemble". The repertoire includes songs from 1930 to 1996. By the way, last time only compositions up to 1995 were performed; according to tradition, these time limits were extended by one year.
The organisers of the festival "Songs of the Youth of Our Fathers" are the Department for Youth Affairs, the Department of Culture, the Department of Education of the Lepel District Executive Committee, and the Youth Wing of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union. The competition brought together young people of different ages from 14 to 31 years old: schoolchildren and students, servicemen, and representatives of work collectives. For the performance, it was necessary to choose two compositions: a hit song and a civic-patriotic or military song.
To the chords of a waltz, the first contestant, Dana Vasilyeva, takes the stage. "Suddenly, as if in a fairy tale, the door creaked," sings Dmitry Venzhik, a student at the Lepel State Agrarian-Technical College. The hall applauds him energetically in rhythm. Veronika Malyavko's lyrical hero hopes for the father's return from the war. The ensemble "Zdraviya Zhelayem" artistically plays their composition: the guys march out in parade step and look out for girls in the audience. Contact with the audience is established: their ovations and smiles speak of this...
Artyom Drankov, Vladislav Nikitin, and Ivan Kolodkin – soldiers from the Zaslonovskaya military unit 71327 – are the only military personnel at the festival. The guys admit that they had little time for preparation – one or two days. They chose the song for the competition together. Skills acquired in civilian life came in handy: Artyom from Orsha studied at a theatre school, and Ivan from Vitebsk took vocal lessons at the cultural and business centre.
All participants have performed, and the jury is retiring for deliberation. To make the wait less arduous, new artists are taking the stage, this time outside the competition. A girls' quartet – students of the State Vocational Lyceum – performs popular songs. Violinist Oleg Dymman masterfully plays melodious compositions.
The wait is not long: the jury chairperson, Head of the Culture Department Tamara Barokha, announces the results. First, valuable prizes and a certificate for victory in the 14-15 years category are awarded to Veronika Malyavko, a student of the Lepel Children's Art School. In the 19-24 years category, the second place is shared by Dmitry Venzhik and Dana Vasilyeva. In the vocal ensemble nomination, the second place also goes to students of Borovskaya Secondary School, Sergey Bokhavchuk and Artem Shipulo. A certificate for active participation is awarded to a trio of servicemen. And who will advance to the zonal stage? In Beshenkovichi, in the 16-18 years category, Elena Karpitskaya, a 10th-grade student of the gymnasium, will perform. In the 19-24 years category, Dmitry Klimansky, a section foreman of boiler houses and heating networks at KUPP "Borovka", will represent the district.
