On May 15, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. A Vitebsk resident has been sentenced to five years in prison for attacking a trolleybus driver and conductor, Andrei Mlechko, assistant prosecutor of the Oktyabrsky District of Vitebsk, told a BELTA correspondent.
In June last year, on Frunze Avenue, the driver of a trolleybus that had stopped due to a malfunction asked passengers to leave the cabin. All passengers complied with the driver's request, except for a young man born in 1989, who was intoxicated. The young man began to demand a refund for his fare, ignoring the option to continue his journey on the next trolleybus, which was provided in such cases, and the explanations of the conductor and the driver. In a fit of bravado, he beat up the driver. The female conductor, who tried to break up the fight, also suffered.
Just a month later, the same young man, under a flimsy pretext and also while intoxicated, severely beat a man standing at a public transport stop.
For malicious hooliganism and causing grievous bodily harm, the young man, who had no prior criminal record, was sentenced to 5 years and one month of imprisonment in an enhanced regime colony. His accomplice, who participated in the fight on the trolleybus, was sentenced to one and a half years of restriction of liberty without being sent to a correctional institution. The sentence has entered into legal force.-0-
