2 October, Minsk /BELTA correspondent/. A drunk driver set fire to a MAZ truck in Vitebsk, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus informed a BELTA correspondent.
The incident occurred in Vitebsk near the bridge on Lyudnikova Street. The driver of the MAZ truck got behind the wheel while heavily intoxicated. He managed to start moving and drove about 10 meters, but a tree blocked his way. However, the driver did not notice that the cabin had hit the obstacle and continued to accelerate even more. This went on for several minutes. Eventually, the truck's tires caught fire due to strong friction with the asphalt. However, the driver did not notice this either.
Fortunately, a security patrol car passing by noticed the incident. The guards rushed to help. They tried to extinguish the flames themselves, but the fire quickly engulfed the vehicle. The driver got out of the cabin – he was not injured. However, the engine compartment, cabin, part of the semi-trailer, the tarpaulin, and the cargo (building insulation) were seriously damaged by the fire. It turned out that the driver had brought the cargo from Russia, and he was scheduled to unload it the next day. The vehicle belongs to a private enterprise in Novopolotsk. The driver was sent for examination. -0-
