The Yuri Tarich Open Amateur Film Competition "I Shoot Cinema" is being held in Polotsk for the third time. It consists of three stages, two of which (acceptance of competition entries and technical selection for admission to the competition; audience evaluation – television broadcast of selected works on a local TV channel with interactive voting) have already taken place. The final stage, the main event of which will be the awarding of prizes to the winners, will be held from December 15-17.

During these days, master classes will be organised by specialists from the national film studio "Belarusfilm", the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, and the Institute of Journalism of Belarusian State University on the topics of "Computer Graphics and Film Production", "Directing and Management", "Sound Directing", "Cinematography", and "Screenwriting in Documentary and Feature Films". In addition, career guidance meetings with students will be held, and a round table discussion "Prospects of Belarusian Cinema: Professional and Amateur" and a press conference are planned. Free film screenings featuring works by "Belarusfilm" will be held at the "Rodina" cinema. Book exhibitions dedicated to Belarusian cinema and famous personalities will be organised in educational and cultural institutions of the Polotsk district.

The solemn ceremony of summing up the results of the final stage of the amateur film competition and awarding the winners will take place at the Palace of Culture of the enterprise "Polotsk-Steklovolokno" on December 17.

The organisers of the competition are the Department of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs of the Polotsk District Executive Committee, the Polotsk branch of the regional TV company "Skif", and the State Enterprise "Polotsk Kinovideoseť". Partners include the national film studio "Belarusfilm", the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, and the Institute of Journalism of Belarusian State University.

Yuri Tarich (real surname Alekseev) is a Soviet film director and screenwriter, a prominent and well-known figure in cinematic art, a native of Polotsk. He lived from 1885 to 1967.
