The winners of the 2016 National Literary Prize republican competition were honoured in Polotsk, a BELTA correspondent reports.

The winner in the "Best Prose Work" nomination was writer Lyudmila Rublevskaya for her novel "The Adventures of Prantsish Vyirvіch, the Traitor and Confederationist". In the "Best Poetry Work" nomination, Anatoly Avrutin won for his poetry book "Enlightenment", and in the "Best Work for Children and Youth" nomination, Mikhail Pozdnyakov won for his book "Lake Dіva". Vasily Tkachev became the winner in the "Best Dramatic Work" nomination for his collection of plays "Characters". The jury recognised Zіnovіy Prigodіch as the author of the best journalistic work for his collection "Postatsі". Valery Nazarov's "The Secret Writing of Andrey Mryi: The Subtext of the Writer's Creative Realities" won in the "Best Literary Criticism and Literary Studies Work" nomination. Margarita Latyshkevich achieved victory in the "Best Debut" nomination with her collection "Yablіkі". All winners were presented with diplomas and the prize symbols.

The laureates of the National Literary Prize were congratulated by the Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vasily Zharko, the Minister of Information Lіlіya Ananіch, the Minister of Culture Boris Svetlov, and the Chairman of the Board of the Union of Writers of Belarus Nikolay Cherginets.

For many years of fruitful work, high professionalism, and a significant personal contribution to the development of national culture, the Honorary Diploma of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus was awarded to the writer Sergey Davіdovіch.

A total of 40 well-known authors participated in the competition. The most popular nominations were "Poetry" and "Children's Literature", with 10 applications submitted for each. When selecting the winners, the jury took into account the quantity and content of articles, reviews, and responses in the media and on internet resources presented by the author, as well as the number of written responses from readers and translations of the work into other world languages.
