October 8, Lepel /Own correspondent/. An autumn track and field pentathlon took place at the city stadium. Nineteen schools from the district participated. Each school presented its best athletes born in 2000-2001. Each team consisted of two boys and two girls.
The participants had to demonstrate their abilities in a 60-meter race, long jump from a run-up, 600-meter and 800-meter races, as well as show their strength by throwing a ball.
In the overall team standings, the first place was taken by the team from Secondary School No. 1, the second by Zaslonovo Secondary School, and the third by Borovaya Secondary School. In the individual standings, Kirill Kruglov and Mikhail Shupenya from Zaslonovo, as well as Stas Radko from the gymnasium, distinguished themselves.
— Kirill Kruglov not only ran well, but he also threw the ball farther than anyone else — 54.5 meters. He has been selected for the district team and represents Lepel at the regional competitions, — says Valery Bulakh, head of the methodical association of physical education and health teachers.
The best among the girls were Alexandra Demko from Secondary School No. 1 (first place), Ekaterina Gridyushko from Secondary School No. 3 (second place), and Elena Gonchar from Secondary School No. 1 (third place).
It is interesting to observe how individual athletes improve their results year after year. For example, Alexandra was only tenth in the running event at the previous competition. This time, she gave her competitors no chance, despite being a natural sprinter, and the 600-meter distance is considered an intermediate and quite challenging one.
