In the Vitebsk region, nearly 4.8 thousand people have been employed in new production facilities in January-September of the current year. This was reported to journalists by Irina Matveeva, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee for Labour, Employment and Social Protection of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.

The situation on the region's labour market was analysed at an expanded meeting of the committee. In particular, the discussion focused on the implementation of measures under the subprogramme "Promotion of Population Employment" of the State Programme for Social Protection and Employment Promotion for 2016-2020.

Irina Matveeva noted that the committee is particularly focused on organising work to create new jobs. According to data for 9 months, 4,793 people have been employed through the creation of new enterprises and production facilities, which corresponds to 83.4% of the annual target set by the government. "Jobs are being created in various sectors of the economy, with about 50% being in small businesses, enterprises with a small number of employees," added the committee representative.

"The task is to provide employment for all who wish it. And we are pleased that employers are offering more vacancies. If at the beginning of the year there were about 2.5 thousand, now the figure is approaching 5 thousand. Labour market tension has decreased. The registered unemployment rate as of November 1 is 0.8% of the economically active population," emphasised Irina Matveeva.

She noted that citizens without permanent employment can be engaged in paid public works, and subsidies are issued for the development of entrepreneurship to enable the unemployed to start their own businesses (200 subsidies have been issued since the beginning of the year). In addition, retraining is being conducted – this year, with the help of employment services, about 1.3 thousand people have acquired a new profession.
