Approximately 45% of old banknotes have been withdrawn from circulation in Belarus within two weeks after the denomination, as reported by Sergey Gaiko, Head of the Main Directorate for Cash Circulation of the National Bank of Belarus, on ONT TV channel, according to BELTA.
"Over 14 days in July, about 40-45% of banknotes of the 2000 nominal series have been withdrawn from circulation," noted the Head of the Main Directorate for Cash Circulation.
Sergey Gaiko recalled that before the denomination, there were 600 million old banknotes in circulation in the country. By the end of the year, all of them are planned to be replaced. The National Bank anticipates that old banknotes will be practically out of circulation by October. Furthermore, as stated in the report, by the end of July, ATMs in the capital will be fully stocked with banknotes of the 2009 issue.
