Not long ago, the messenger of the "Lepelsky Krai" newspaper held a vote to determine the winner among the best design drafts for an emblem. It must be said that the residents of Lepel took an active part in it. We and the contest organizers received messages from both participants of the creative competition and those who voted, with various ideas and requests, which were immediately taken into account.

The creators of the design drafts that received the most votes were awarded well-deserved prizes – diplomas and awards! Thus, Anna Dovnar, an employee of the State Institution "Lepel District Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology," was awarded a First Degree Diploma. A collective work by employees of the State Forestry Institution "Lepel Forest Management" Natalia Danilevich, Natalia Perednya, and Dmitry Ivanov was awarded a Second Degree Diploma. Maria Voyush was awarded a Third Degree Diploma.

-- What were the requirements for the contest materials? - we ask the chief physician of the State Institution "Lepel District Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology," Victoria Korotchik-Laskaya.

-First and foremost, the design draft of the emblem should be easy to perceive and understand, correspond to the theme, and arouse interest; it should not be overloaded. In addition, it should contain the project name, be developed using computer graphics (CorelDRAW, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, etc.), be in colour, and be submitted in electronic format as JPEG, PNG.

An obligatory condition is authorship and originality; it should not contain photographs, logos, or emblems of other organisations.

Originality of approach, artistic expressiveness, and completeness of theme disclosure were also taken into account during the evaluation.

We asked Anna Dovnar, a winner of the competition and a sanitary inspector assistant at the hygiene and epidemiology centre, to tell us more about the "Lepel – Healthy City" project.

— "Healthy Cities" is a WHO project that has been developing since 1988. A healthy city is a city that constantly creates and improves its physical and social environment so that people can help each other improve their lives and

maximum potential.

In 2019, the state preventive project "Healthy Cities and Towns" was approved in Belarus, which began to include numerous settlements in all regions.

The project involves the creation of a health-saving environment in settlements, conditions for the development of physical culture and sports, the preservation and strengthening of the health of young students and enterprise employees. Among the priorities are also affordable and healthy nutrition, accessible medicine for all, the development of volunteer movement, and environmental well-being.

— As is known, human health depends by 50 percent on one's lifestyle. The formation of a healthy lifestyle for the population is the most important direction of the state policy of the Republic of Belarus in the field of health preservation and strengthening, — noted Anna Dovnar.

According to the winners, the emblem symbolises love for their small homeland — a city of healthy people, healthy traditions, and healthy ecology.

In conclusion, we would like to say that the winner's emblem will now be the "calling card" of Lepel as a healthy city. It is proposed to use it as symbolism, to place it on information and educational materials, such as memos, leaflets, brochures, and others, on various information and educational materials within the framework of the preventive project "Lepel — Healthy City" to attract the population's attention to a healthy lifestyle.
