The number of economically active population in the region in January-May this year amounted to 460.4 thousand people, a decrease of 7.1 thousand people, or 1.5 percent, compared to the same period last year. At the same time, the number of vacancies declared by employers increased by more than 4 thousand, reaching 13,730, of which almost 64 percent were for blue-collar occupations. A shortage of personnel is observed in all sectors of the economy.
Considering the current trends, a comprehensive approach to solving labour market problems is necessary. This issue was addressed at a meeting of the Regional Council for Labour and Social Issues, chaired by the Deputy Chairperson of the Regional Executive Committee, Anzhelika Nikitina.
Ensuring enterprises and organisations with qualified personnel, retaining young specialists in their first jobs, and preventing staff turnover are issues that are being addressed by vocational education institutions, employment services, trade unions, and employers themselves.
Measures that will help overcome the personnel shortage include updating applications for personnel training in the AS "Goszakaz i Priem" (State Order and Acceptance), forming admission targets for educational institutions, concluding targeted contracts, retraining personnel, providing financial incentives for young specialists, and offering rental housing and dormitories.
