The State Automobile Inspectorate has organised round-the-clock monitoring of street and road conditions, and control over the timely performance of work by road and utility services to clear snowdrifts and ice. All traffic police patrols are focused on assisting road users.
The weekend is ahead, and when setting off on a journey, especially for long distances, thoroughly check the technical condition of your vehicle. Also, remember to observe enhanced safety measures. Consider that the condition of the roadway along the route may change: in bad weather, the most difficult driving conditions are usually on descents, ascents, and curves, as well as on exposed sections of roads.
Avoid sudden manoeuvres and braking, especially near pedestrian crossings, intersections, and road curves. Choose a safe speed taking into account the condition of the roadway and visibility, maintain distance and observe lateral clearance. All occupants of the vehicle must be fastened.
Drivers need to consider that a cleared roadway treated with anti-icing agents does not immediately become safe; time and a certain intensity of traffic are required for the mixture to start performing its functions.
Pedestrians also need to be careful on slippery roads. Wait for a green traffic light or public transport away from the edge of the roadway to avoid slipping under the wheels. Even at regulated pedestrian crossings, do not start moving until all vehicles have stopped, as the stopping distance of any vehicle increases significantly on a slippery road! In the dark, it is essential to make yourself visible with reflective elements.
