The Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus, Major General Igor Rachkovsky, and the Commander of the State Border Guard Service under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania, Colonel Vainius Butinas, are discussing cooperation prospects in Grodno today, BELTA correspondent reports. The agenda includes issues concerning the state and prospects of bilateral cooperation on border matters, joint participation in international technical assistance programs for the development of border crossing points, and the implementation of the provisions of the treaty between the countries on the regime of the Belarusian-Lithuanian state border. According to Vainius Butinas, the cooperation between the border agencies of the two countries in various areas deserves high praise. Thus, this year, the implementation of the first joint technical assistance projects aimed at developing border crossing points and improving throughput on the main routes is expected to commence. Border guards have demonstrated a high level of performance during joint work to curb illegal transit migration. The heads of the border agencies inspected a section of the border and laid wreaths at the memorial to fallen border guards in Grodno. They will also visit the "Bruzgi" border crossing point, where a working meeting will be held. Following the working meeting, a plan for joint actions for 2011-2012 is to be developed. -0-
