"Chagall Collection. Issue 4" includes the texts of reports presented at the XXIV and XXV International Chagall Readings in Vitebsk. The publication consists of two parts. The first part contains materials dedicated to the biography and work of Marc Chagall. The second part includes research on the artist's circle and on Vitebsk in the early 20th century. The publication will be presented at the Marc Chagall Art Centre on January 25 (starting at 16:00). On the day of the presentation, the full electronic version of the collection will also appear on the museum's website www.chagal-vitebsk.com. As explained at the museum, until now, only some of the reports from the Chagall Readings have been published online; the full version of the collection in PDF format will be posted on the museum's website for the first time.
Since 1991, the International Chagall Readings scientific conference has been held in Vitebsk, attended by dozens of researchers of the artist's work from various countries around the world. Most of the conference materials have been published in three issues of the "Chagall Collection" (published in 1996, 2004, 2008) and the "Bulletin of the Marc Chagall Museum" (21 issues from 2000 to 2013). Some of these publications have already become bibliographical rarities.
The museum emphasised that the new collection is dedicated to the memory of the permanent chairman of the Chagall Committee in Vitebsk, David Simonovich (1932-2014).
This year marks the 130th anniversary of the birth of the world-renowned artist Marc Chagall. On the occasion of the jubilee date, numerous events are planned to be organised in Vitebsk. One of the most important and significant events promises to be the opening of the museum of the history of the Vitebsk People's Art School, which was founded by Chagall almost 100 years ago. There will also be many exhibition projects. For example, an exhibition of graphic works by the German artist-engraver Hermann Struck (who was Marc Chagall's teacher) is currently underway at the Marc Chagall Art Centre. The exhibition features 47 original black-and-white lithographs dating from 1916, and graphic works by Marc Chagall.
