On April 25, Minsk /BelTA correspondent/. Polotsk and Novopolotsk will eventually become one powerful administrative-territorial unit. This opinion was expressed by the Chairman of the Polotsk City Executive Committee, Alexander Poznyak, during an online conference on the website of the Belarusian Telegraph Agency. "This issue concerns the development strategy of the two cities," said Alexander Poznyak. "Polotsk is 1150 years old, Novopolotsk is 53 years old. These are two administrative-territorial units, two cities of regional subordination, which live a full life. Polotsk has a population of 85,000 people, and Novopolotsk has 105,000 residents. The cities literally look into each other's windows - there are 7 km between them. The cities are developing towards each other, and there is quite intensive construction going on." At the same time, the mayor of Polotsk believes that it will still take time for the cities to approach unification. "We conducted a survey among residents of Polotsk and Novopolotsk. So far, there is no majority opinion in favour of unification," said the Chairman of the Polotsk City Executive Committee. "But the dynamics are positive, in my opinion, in this matter. I think the time will come when the two cities will become one powerful administrative-territorial unit." -0-
